A.A. Degree
The English major at De Anza College o ers students the opportunity to study language, literature, creative writing and composition and to deepen critical thinking, communication skills and aesthetic awareness. The English major also prepares students for further study leading to employment and internships in  elds such as education, business, law, editing and writing. The program further prepares students to become e ective communicators and broadly literate members of the community.
Program Learning Outcomes - upon completion, students will be able to:
• Demonstrate awareness of diverse social, critical, historical
and cultural perspectives by reading and responding to a
range of literary texts.
• Analyze texts representing a wide range of genres including
poetry, drama,  ction and  lm.
• Identify and make relevant connections between texts of
various historical periods.
• Write well-developed and e ectively organized essays
including in-class essays, interpretive arguments and essays
