History of Cinema (1895-1950) - HONORS

Course Description

A survey of the international development of the motion picture to 1950 as a distinct form of artistic expression, through classic films, notable artists, and key events; an investigation of the aesthetic, technological, economic, and social factors that contributed to the evolution of film; an examination of the value systems reflected in and shaped by these works from diverse cultures. F/TV D2AWH will cover expanded topics in historiography, such as problems and approaches to historical film research and analysis. As an honors course, students will be expected to complete extra assignments to gain deeper insight into the history of cinematic arts.

    De Anza will host its annual Enrollment Day event for graduating high school students and their families on Saturday, April 27, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Main Quad and other locations.

    Sixteen faculty members were granted tenure by the Foothill-De Anza district Board of Trustees on Monday, during a special celebration attended by Chancellor Lee Lambert and leaders from the college and district. Colleagues, deans and family members were also there to congratulate them.

    Four members of the De Anza College community will be honored in March with Excellence Awards from the national League for Innovation in the Community College. They were selected for their outstanding service to the college and its students.

    De Anza has received its first-ever grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, providing $150,000 for an ambitious, three-year effort to create and expand oral history programs focused on historically marginalized communities.
