Creative Arts Art ARTS 14ABC-01 25979, 26521, 26522 Develop expressive content through manipulation of mark, color, value and composition

2023-2024 Fall Face-to-Face Portfolio Review Students presented a body of watercolor painting projects and assignments that demonstrates the development of expressive content through manipulation of mark, color, value and composition. 11 1 1 0 6 Almost all students who have participated the portfolio review have met and exceeded the SLO assessment listed.  The portfolio review is an effective way for students to organize and improve their work toward the SLO.
Creative Arts Film/Television F/TV D067A-01Y 25290 Student Learning Outcome 1: Design realistic and expressionistic animated movements.

Student Learning Outcome 2: Create drawn sequences of character and effects animation.
2023-2024 Fall Hybrid (some Face-to-Face) Portfolio Review The students create a portfolio in the form of a demo reel that showcases their three strongest animation assignments from the quarter. The demo reels are presented to the class during our finals week meeting

Each of the assignments included in the demo reel are drawn sequences of character and/or effects animation. The animated sequences in the demo reel are graded on how realistic and expressionistic the animated motion is, based on lessons and examples presented during the quarter
20 3 1 3 1 The majority of students exceeded expectations, with a smaller percentage either meeting or approaching. Of the small percentage that either didn’t meet the outcomes the reason was due to missing assignments. The one student who is not applicable is due to absence/non-participation Based on this, in order to improve the number of students meeting expectations more support may be needed to help students with missing or late assignments to identify any learning gaps or issues that are preventing them from finishing their work successfully.

This may include one-on-one help during class/lab time, and/or reaching out to these students via email to check in with them
Creative Arts Film/Television F/TV D072G-01Y 25292 Student Learning Outcome: Students will create the pre-production visual and audio components of a short personal animated film. 2023-2024 Fall Hybrid (some Face-to-Face) Project The students create an animatic of their own, original animated film idea. The animatic is a time-based approximation of their film using storyboards and rough audio, but no animation. The animatics are presented to the class during our finals week meeting

Each animatic includes all the pre-production visual and audio components of their short personal animated film. The animatics are graded on whether all these components are present, effective, and working well to tell the story of their film, based on lessons and examples presented during the quarter
8 1 2 4 1 Half of the students exceeded expectations, with a few students either meeting or approaching. Four students didn’t meet the outcomes and this was due to missing assignments, while one student who is not applicable is due to absence/non-participation Students sometimes have trouble choosing an idea for their film and then staying with that idea during development, which leads to missing assignments. The class walks them through the process from beginning, but still some students have trouble narrowing down their idea. To help with this more one-on-one help with the story process may be necessary

Additionally, in order to improve the number of students meeting expectations, more support may be needed to help students with missing or late assignments to identify any learning gaps or issues that are preventing them from finishing their work successfully. This may include
Creative Arts Film/Television F/TV D072H-01Y 25293 Student Learning Outcome: Students will create the production visual and audio components of a short personal animated film. 2023-2024 Fall Hybrid (some Face-to-Face) Project The students create rough animation and audio of their own, original animated film idea. Students build on the pre-production work they did in F/TV72G and produce rough animation and audio for their short personal animated film. The rough animation with audio is presented to the class during our finals week meeting

Each final presentation of work includes all production visual and audio components of their short personal animated film. Projects are graded on whether all of these components are present, effective, and working well to tell the story of their film, based on lessons and examples presented during the quarter
3 1 0 0 0 This is a small, stacked class with only 4 students this quarter. Of the 4, 3 exceeded expectations and 1 met expectations. This tells me that the course prepared all of the students successfully to meet the SLO Based on these results, no enhancements/action are needed at this time. However, to ensure it stays this way continued support may be needed to help students with missing or late assignments to identify any learning gaps or issues that are preventing them from finishing their work successfully. This may include one-on-one help during class/lab time, and/or reaching out to these students via email to check in with them
Creative Arts Film/Television F/TV D075G-50Z 26499 Student Learning Outcome 1: Identify and describe the development of the animated short film from 19th century pre-cinematic devices to the present, noting its role in international film history.

Student Learning Outcome 2: Analyze the formal evolution of the animated short film, including the development of aesthetic elements such as narrative structure, art direction, camera language, sound design and editing styles.

Student Learning Outcome 3: Refine and employ critical thinking skills in aesthetic, technological and socio-political contexts to understand animated films produced in various historical eras and geographic regions.
2023-2024 Fall Online - Asynchronous Project The form above would only let me choose one method, but there are two primary methods of assessment for this course: a final exam and a research project. The final exam asks students to identify and describe important elements in the development of animated films internationally, while the research project asks students to analyze the evolution of animated film as seen through one topic chosen from various historical eras and geographic regions. In this research project, students refine and employ their critical thinking skills in a display of their understanding 34 7 2 6 0 The majority of students exceeded expectations, with a good number of the remaining students either meeting or approaching. The small percentage that didn’t meet the outcomes was due to missing assignments and lack of participation These numbers tell me that the current course structure is working well to meet expectations and achieve the SLO’s but there is room for improvement. Student engagement in an asynchronous online course is a challenge, and in order to improve the number of students meeting expectations more support may be needed to help students with missing or late assignments to identify any learning gaps or issues that are preventing them from finishing their work successfully. This may include one-on-one help during office hours, additional forms of instruction, and/or reaching out to these students via email to check in with them
Creative Arts Graphic Design ARTS D054 64Z ARTS D054 The student will further develop an awareness to the
computer as an effective and important mode of visual communication used by artists and designers today.
The student will demonstrate the creative potential of
art and design software through directed laboratory exercises
2023-2024 Spring Online - Asynchronous Project Students had access to the assignment brief (midterm) as the course started. The Midterm Project workload was broken into 3-4 weeks where the students were asked to 1-read, see and understand what an editorial image was, 2-Find a journalistic article to work on, brainstorm, sketch, and elaborate, 3-students submitted a draft, and 4-students submitted their finalized projects. In the second stage, the teacher provided feedback. In the third stage extensive feedback was given to the students by the teacher and classmates. When the students submitted their finalized work, the work was graded against a rubric that students were introduced to 4 weeks prior. 23 2 0 3 3 The three students that did not meet the expectations are the ones that did not submit any work during the process (4 week work process period) I have seen these to work well:
Chunking up the work and providing feedback at each step to ensure the student is on track
Showing previous student work and allowing students to see the critique for the past work
Creating a discussion board to allow students to give feedback to each other
I also extended provided a week window for students to submit the final work.
I do not know what to do to encourage the students who do not attempt the assignments.

§ Deciding shutter speed and aperture: this would affect your overall exposure, depth of field, and motion blur if students shoot moving objects.
§ Holding the camera steadily: this would affect the sharpness of the image
2. Film development:
a. loading film to the reel property.
b. Follow instructions when processing film (chemical ratio, water temperature, and developing time.)

3. Printer Quality:
a. Know how to focus when using an enlarger
b. Make test strips to determine the exposure time
c. Adding filters and using the dodging and burning technique to control the contrast of a print.
