Biography

I am a native Californian. I grew up in the San Fernando Valley and moved to the San Jose area in 1976. Have never looked back. The Bay area is an outstanding place to live, however, I will say that I miss the beaches around Santa Monica. While in Southern California, I taught at the high school level for four years after which I moved to San Jose and took a position for six years as a stock and bond broker, with Bateman, Eichler, Hill, Richards, buying and selling equities in the secondary markets while also participating in Initial Public Offerings. In 1983 I joined a software start-up and managed sales for half of the U.S.. I spent the next twenty years in software/hardware marketing and sales for huge companies such as Siemens Corp., and Unisys Corp., while dabbling a few more times with promising start-ups. In April 1997, I became a founder of eOnline, Inc,. After securing 10 million in venture capital from a Palo Alto VC firm, a colleague from Siemens, Corp. and I started the company that we would run for the next three years. My position was Director of Marketing. From that point, I moved into private capital funding, which involved brokering deals between projects that needed capital funding and individuals who had capital to place.I have been teaching at De Anza College since 2001. I enjoy traveling the world and being a "foodie". I keep two vegetable gardens going year round and grow about 75% of our family produce. I like to work in the dirt. I am a musician and love to have music around me most of the time. My teaching style is to tell stories to get points across---most are from "real world" situations. People tend to remember stories.  I would hope that you will leave my class not with just a grade, but with "street-smarts".  Let me know if there is any other information you would like to have now---you can reach me at niedermiergary@deanza.edu. I would enjoy welcoming you to my class and sharing some good stories.
