Welcome and Opening Remarks   

The chair welcomed everyone and expressed appreciation for the record attendance. 

Senate Business and Chancellor's Visit 

• Questions and concerns were previously emailed to the Chancellor.   
• The Chancellor provided thoughts and perspectives on the questions to the best of their ability, though some details were unavailable. 

Discussion Points: 

1. Potential for Nursing and HTEC program students to gain practicum/internship opportunities at the proposed clinic 

• The county CEO had expressed openness to providing internships/practicums as allowable. 
• Specific details to be negotiated in the agreement with the county. 
• Opportunities would be available for both DeAnza and Foothill students. 
• Scope of the facility raised as a key factor in determining what opportunities would be allowed by accreditors. 

2. Impact on existing campus services and activities 

• Potential overlap acknowledged with De Anza's health services, but the county clinic serves the broader community.  
• Impact on the DeAnza flea market to be assessed, and alternative locations explored. 
• Need to involve Joel Cadiz from facilities to understand specs, footprint, revenue impacts, etc. 
• Parking impact expected to be minimal given enrollment trends, but to be monitored and addressed if needed. 
• Enforcement of parking permits raised as an issue, with cost implications cited. 
• Suggested bringing in Danny Acosta to discuss parking logistics and options. 

3. Campus security and access with influx of community members 

• Measures for security and visitor guidance to be negotiated with the county.   
• Signage and branding integration between the clinic and De Anza to be worked out. 

4. Background on the proposed clinic 

• Initiative originated from board members, not administration. 
• De Anza campus chosen for this partnership by board members. 
• Intended to serve the county's unmet healthcare needs in this area. 

Our Concerns 

•     Questions raised about other locations considered by the county. 
•     Concern about permanent loss of De Anza land/facilities.

Next Steps 

•  Invite Joel Cadiz and Danny Acosta from facilities to address parking, flea market, and logistical concerns. 
• Connect student leadership with facilities staff to explore flea market options.  
• Seek clarity from the county on serving undocumented community members. 
• Ground lease negotiations to follow, eventually going to the board for approval. 

 Action Items: 

• Form a liaison committee with volunteers to collaborate between Classified Senate, students, and administration on this project. 
• Invite Joel Cadiz and Danny Acosta to a future meeting to address parking, flea market logistics, and signage. 
• Facilitate connection between student leadership and Joel Cadiz regarding flea market options. 
• Seek clarification from the county on serving undocumented community members.   
• Stay informed about the ground lease negotiations and board approval process.
