General Chemistry I - HONORS
Course Description
This course provides an introduction to the structure and reactivity of matter at the molecular level, as well as an application of critical reasoning to modern chemical theory and structured numerical problem-solving. Students will learn the development of molecular structure from rudimentary quantum mechanics, including an introduction to ionic and covalent bonding; chemical problem-solving involving both formula and reaction stoichiometry employing the unit analysis method; and be introduced to thermochemistry and a discussion of the first law of thermodynamics. Additionally, this course is part of the Honors Program.

HONORS SECTION: Open to Honors Program students or by clearance from the Honors Coordinator. To enroll, first register for the regular section using the standard CRN. During the first week of the quarter, obtain an Honors add code from your instructor for the corresponding "H" section (e.g., ACCT 1AH). Then, drop the regular section in MyPortal and immediately add the Honors section using the new Honors CRN and add code.

- CHEM D025. or CHEM D030A with a grade of C or better, or satisfactory score on the Chemistry Placement Test; and intermediate algebra or equivalent (or higher), or appropriate placement beyond intermediate algebra
