Contemporary Asian American Communities
Course Description
This course is an introduction to Asian American Studies that explores Asian American community-making in the context of Asian America since the 1960s. The course argues that who is Asian American and what we know to be Asian America are ever-changing. The course thus considers Asian American community-making as a social process always in the making and shaped by historical conditions. The course explores Asian American community-making in relation to topics such as history, immigration, family, gender and sexuality, labor, education, media, politics, and community activism.
