- Friday Feb.13 and Feb 16. are campus closure dates for president’s day, no meetings on those days.
- Next week is the final deadline for winter club apps. All Club app submissions needs to be in by Monday Feb. 9th by 1:30pm.

- Ethan: Finance commitee has finished revising the budget request form and financial action form, will show to dayna later today
- Phoo: We have started discussing the election process for ICC, will have admin committee meeting after exec at 3:30.
- Melody: going to post flyers for office hours, will post the spotlight post soon. Will post club contacts and put in glass bulletin board soon.
- Min: DASG elections is closing tonight, please consider running in the elections. https://www.deanza.edu/dasg/elections/
Business Item 1: New/Reactivated Club Applications
ISF - international student fellowship
-
- ISF presentation was given by officer team
- Q: last week we approved ISMP and ISC. We now have two different international-focused clubs. How is this club different than those two?
- A: ISMP mainly focuses on mentorship, ISF would focus on cultural exchange.
- Min: We will take a quick look at ISC’s objective and compare.
- ISC “International Student Connections is to connect students with diverse backgrounds, fostered culture, understanding, practical support. ISC provides a safe space for sharing experiences.”
- ISF “ISF says that they will bring economic students together to celebrate diverse cultures. build meaningful connections that support one another through engaging experience.”
- Maritza: hisorically, everyone wanted to lead their own clubs since there are only so many officer positions per club. Multiple clubs would be different offshoot of the same concept. That left students who were interested in that same mission being split into two different groups. When neither would get a strong enough footing to stay, the clubs would deactivate. That was happening for years and years, so it's not really a matter of shifting the mission to be a little different on verbiage. We want to make sure that it's not the same mission of a club that already exists. This is the reason why we are more strict around having clubs that aren’t overlapping in mission.
Varshi moved to reject the club due to similarity, Kyi seconded the motion. No objections. Motion passed.
Research @ De Anza
-
- Q: We currently have AI student research club, applied engineering research club, research lab club. These are all clubs that already exist on campus.
- Varshi moved to reject the club due to similarity, Phoo seconded the motion. No objections. Motion passed.
Business Item 2: Election Info Sessions
- Min: we are working on slides for the ICC election information sessions. We would like fellow execs to have inputs on the slides and Q+A portions.
- Application deadline: will open week 9 of this winter quarter, after DASG election concludes and the ICC chairperson is elected. Orientation dates will be in spring week 10.
- Maritza: The timeline is ok from logistical standpoint, please use week 1 of spring to figure the schedule out. The deadline cannot be later. Week 9 would be the latest it should open, as finals and break is after week 9.
- Min: We will coordinate together to plan more dates for ICC election info session outside of Club Rep meetings, because some applicants may be unavailable during club rep meeting.
Business Item 3: Additional ICC Winter Events Updates
- Cultural day: Last week we scheduled a meeting but it was postponed. Cultural day event will be taking place somewhere in week 9, exact date will be decided tomorrow, February 2 during SRE’s committee meeting at 2pm.
- Winter ball: decorations are discussed, ICC is only supporting DASG in providing manpower. We met with our advisors this morning, we suggested DASG to reuse some homecoming decor.
- Spring Carnival: loosely overviewed last week, will update details later.
- Maritza: If you have large events, it would be great to have the dates the quarter before the event, since Spring is extremely busy with graduation celebrations. Please get the dates finalized and fill out the special event request form.
Business Item 4: ICC Scholarship Discussion
- Two different scholarship opportunities: the Carolee Erickson memorial ICC scholarship, and La Donna Yumori-Kaku leadership scholarship. ICC is responsible for putting the scholarships out and choosing the winners.
- There will be a rubric for review for each application, with blind apps with name and CWID blurred out. While there might be chances that you can still identify the person through the essay, please focus on if the application meets the criteria, versus liking the individual person.
- Scholarship will come out of Fund 44-4310, ICC scholarships. We should try to lean towards 1 awardee for each scholarship to not deplete this fund, since we don’t have a sustainable way to replenish this account.
- The applications will be on academic works when it’s up.
- Darren: should we have a word limit/minimum?
- Maritza: without specifying the word count, in the past we’ve gotten very average responses around 1 page.
- Min: it may be good to add a word count.
- Amy: the more words you require, that’s the more words that you need to review and read through. AI usage to expand paragraphs doesn’t necessarily add substance to their essays.
- Maritza: Maybe focus on specific examples of actions instead of a target word count.
- ICC officers are welcomed to apply to the Ladonna schaolrship.
