Climate Focus Group + Pulse Survey Results

Newell presented an update on districtwide campus climate efforts and the Employer of Choice initiative. The Spring 2025 Campus Climate Survey received 258 responses. Five employee focus groups were conducted in May 2026 with 15 participants, and the district's 12-question Employee Pulse Survey received 417 responses.

Key focus group themes included work-life balance, career development and cross-training, transparency and trust in decision-making, employee recognition and belonging, manager training, and consistent onboarding. Pulse Survey results showed 49% felt their voice and opinions matter, 50% had discussed their professional progress in the past year, 52% regularly received praise and encouragement, 73% had opportunities to learn new things at work, and 87% reported being actively engaged at work.

Results are being shared with constituency groups to support planning and improvement efforts. The Campus Climate Survey and Employee Pulse Survey will alternate every other year.

    Measure G Update

Sciacchitano provided an update on Measure G projects. Recently completed projects include roof and exterior improvements, six beach volleyball courts, Flint Center demolition and associated utility work, and the stadium visual display board. Restroom renovations at S2, S6, and L5 and additional roof and exterior work are nearing completion or underway.

Upcoming projects include a campuswide fire alarm system upgrade, the Physical Education Complex renovation, and the New Creative Arts Building. Construction for the fire alarm and Creative Arts projects is targeted for Summer 2027; PE Complex construction is targeted for Fall 2027. The PE project will renovate approximately 80,000 square feet across five buildings and is 75% state funded.

Members discussed temporary swing spaces needed during PE construction and potential impacts to instructional areas, the Child Development Center, and Lot E parking. The project team will continue working with affected stakeholders to address impacts. Campus signage is currently planned toward the end of the Measure G program but may be reconsidered based on campus needs.

It was suggested that Measure G updates become a standing College Council agenda item.

Time Block Scheduling Task Force Recommendation

Subramaniam provided an update following consultation with campus governance groups. DASG supported Option A, while Academic Senate and Classified Senate supported Option B with flexible lab science start times.

Discussion focused on impacts to academic programs, laboratory preparation and classified staffing, communication and change management, and the need to continue evaluating the schedule after implementation. The task force may continue its work during 2026-27 to refine future scheduling. Potential measures of success include students' ability to obtain needed courses, time to ADT completion, and units accumulated toward completion.

College Council voted on Option B for Academic Year 2027-28, with flexible lab science start times of 7:30 a.m. or 8:00 a.m.

    Vote: 14 Option B with flex; 1 Option A; 2 abstentions.

Option B with flex was approved.
