Global Studies Degree
De Anza now offers an associate's degree for transfer in Global Studies.
The Associate of Arts in Global Studies for Transfer degree is an interdisciplinary program designed to equip students with knowledge and understanding of the world's social, political, economic, and natural systems and their increasing interdependence. The program provides the student with a broad comprehension of critical issues that affect their lives and community, the processes of globalization, and their impacts on societies, cultures, and environments around the world, along with an appreciation of the diversity of human cultures and languages. Through the program, students will become well-versed in global issues, geography, world history, and cultural competence and proficient in a world language, gaining a strong background for working in a global economy, living in a multicultural society, and making educated decisions as global citizens.
The Associate in Arts in Global Studies for Transfer degree is designed to prepare
students to transfer into the California State University (CSU) and UC system.*
Core requirements:
INTL 1 - Introduction to Global Studies
INTL 5 - Contemporary Global Issues
Elective Classes: Minimum 5 classes from 4 areas
Area 1: Culture and Society (ANTH 2/2H or HIST 3B/3BH & HIST 3C/3CH)
Area 2: Geography (GEO 1, GEO 4, or GEO 10)
Area 3: Economics (ECON 1/1H or ECON 2/2H)
Area 4: Politics (POLI 2 or POLI 3)
Area 5: Humanities (FREN 1, 2, or 3, or GERM 1, 2, or 3, or ITAL 1, 2, or 3, or JAPN 1, 2, or 3, or MAND 4, 5, or 6, or SPAN 1, 2, 3, or 4)
