Early Planning Stages
Closing the Flint Center: 2019
After examining numerous options for addressing structural, safety, accessibility and usage issues in the 50-year-old Flint Center building on De Anza's campus – at an estimated cost of $50 million or more – the Foothill-De Anza Board of Trustees voted on June 10, 2019, to permanently close the Flint Center.
Since then, the college and district have engaged in further discussions about the best uses for the Flint Center site and for construction funding available through measure G.
Early Discussions: 2020-2022
Initial planning discussions focused on the idea of building a "Megaproject" that would include a new Services for Students Building and a new Event Center on the north side of campus, and the temporary relocation of instructional and studio space for the Creative Arts Division..
- The Services for Students building would help consolidate and centralize important services and programs.
- The Event Center would directly serve instructional and student service needs, as approved by the district Board of Trustees, and, to the extent possible, help meet community needs for a cultural venue and civic meeting space.
