Important–Your Academic Status at De Anza

Dear Student,

We noticed your cumulative grade point average through the end of last quarter is below 2.0. As a result, you will need to complete an academic probation process that's designed to provide you with extra support.

As part of this process, a registration hold has been placed on your student account, which means you won’t be able to register for fall classes until you complete the steps below.

  • You are not alone. Many students have faced academic difficulties – sometimes due to personal, financial, health or family issues – and have succeeded in regaining their academic standing.
  • We are here to support you! An Academic Awareness Program (AAP) support team, including an academic counselor and student success specialist, will work with you through this process.

Here are your next steps.

First: Complete the Student Self-Assessment form before you meet with your counselor. This self-assessment will help you identify your strengths and areas to improve, gain insights into your study habits, and set clear goals. After you complete the form, an AAP academic counselor will meet with you to help you set goals.

Second: Meet with an AAP counselor. Your counselor will assist you with reviewing the self-assessment, setting clear goals, choosing classes strategically, updating your education plan, removing your registration hold – and providing additional support.

Third: Check in with an AAP student success specialist. Our specialists will check in with you over the summer to offer support, answer questions, help schedule counseling appointments and provide referrals for other services. You may reach them:

You must follow these steps in order to have your registration hold removed.

Please note that students who are on academic probation for more than one quarter may lose their priority registration status or become ineligible for certain types of financial aid, such as the California College Promise Grant, or veteran’s benefits. (The Financial Aid Office and Veterans Resource Center can provide more information about eligibility.)

You can learn more about academic probation on the Probation Standards and Requirements webpage. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact an AAP student success specialist by following the instructions in Step 3 above.

Best wishes,
De Anza College
