CIS 18A - Introduction to Unix / Linux

Course Description

This class introduces the features of the Unix / Linux operating system:

  • Text editing and text file manipulation
  • Electronic mail and communication utilities
  • Directory structures and links
  • Process control
  • Input/output handling and shell features
  • Basic regular expression

Prerequisites (Advisory)

It is recommended that you take these courses or their equivalence before CIS 18A

  • Computer Information Systems 10
  • English Writing 211 and Reading 211 (or Language Arts 211), or English as a Second Language 272 and 273

Attendance

This is a hybrid course with an on-campus and on-line components.

Evaluation

Letter grades are assigned based on:

  • 10 lab assignments
  • 8 quizzes
  • 1 midterm exam
  • 1 comprehensive final exam
