Honors and Achievements

Women’s Cross-Country Team Wins NorCal Regional

The women’s cross-country team captured the California Community College Athletic Association Northern California Regional Championship.

This is the team’s first regional title since 2012. Before the championship, the team was ranked fourth in the nation. They will compete in the Cross-Country State Championships this Saturday, Nov. 22.

De Anza Hosts International Collegiate Programming Contest

On Saturday, De Anza hosted the Pacific Northwest Regional International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) in the Computer Information Systems Lab. More than 200 students attended the event, along with their coaches and ICPC staff.

De Anza was chosen as a host site for the event because our teams have been consistently earning a top five spot in ICPC’s Division 2. We are also the only two-year college ever invited to participate in ICPC’s Division 1.

Students Win First Place in State Business Competition

De Anza’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter took home several awards over the weekend of Nov. 8-9 at the State Fall Business Leadership Conference in La Jolla.

Eleven schools and over 200 students participated in the five events at the competition. De Anza earned the most amount of first- through fifth-place rankings in the competition – double the amount that the second-place college earned.

Om Bathija, Shakil Musthafa, Timothy Nguyen and Bryant Vo won first place in the entrepreneur pitch category. Derick Nguyen placed second and Olivia Ma placed fourth in the public speaking category. Jacob Chen, Joshua Morris, Vincent Shao and Ella Yang placed third in the hospitality management case competition.

Carine Chan, George Huang, Anna Huynh and Christina Tran earned fourth place and Anirudh Ahluwalia, Jacob Eliashberg, Joseph Leytes and Pak Hei Wong earned fifth place in the finance case competition.

Michelle Nguyen, Jayden Phan, Francisco Rodriguez and Haley Truong placed fifth in the hospitality management case competition. Jennifer Coosemans, Nikunj More, Nisa Pradhan and Arya Somu placed fifth in the entrepreneur pitch category.

Accounting instructor Jeffrey West is the club’s adviser.


This Week

CSU East Bay Business and Economics Info Session This Wednesday, Nov. 19

The Transfer Center is collaborating with California State University, East Bay to host an information session about the university's College of Business and Economics this Wednesday, Nov. 19, from noon-1 p.m.

The college offers Bachelor of Science programs in Business Administration (BSBA), Economics, Accounting and Analytics, and Business Analytics. The Business Administration degree also has an online completion program available to transfer students. Please register in advance.

Founders’ Forum Showcase This Thursday, Nov. 20

The Innovation Center is hosting the “Innovation That Matters – 2025 Founders’ Forum Showcase” this Thursday, Nov. 20, from 3:30-5:30 p.m. in MCC 17. Everyone is invited to be part of the audience.

The event will consist of eight finalist teams presenting their ideas to a world-class panel of industry leaders and De Anza faculty members.

This is the culmination of five weeks of intensive workshops, where student founders have been creating business ideas grounded in humane technology, ethical design and United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Students will be competing for the following prizes:

  • First place – $500
  • Second place – $250
  • Third place – $150
  • Best alignment with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and humane technology – $100

De Anza Hacks 4.0 This Friday and Saturday, Nov. 21 and 22

The fourth annual De Anza Hacks will be held on campus this Friday and Saturday, Nov. 21 and 22, from 8 a.m.-8:30 p.m. both days. This is a free, beginner-friendly event.

During this coding marathon, students will work together to design prototypes and present their creations to judges for the chance to win a prize. The event brings together creative and passionate students to build innovative solutions, collaborate with peers and showcase their talents in solving real-world problems.

Today, Nov. 17, is the last day to register for the event.

This event is sponsored by the De Anza Student Government and the Business, Computer Science and Applied Technologies Division.


Winter Registration Assistance Sessions

Different offices will be offering winter quarter registration assistance this month to help students prepare for the upcoming quarter. Please see below for session dates and times.

De Anza CONNECT will be serving new, first-time students on Zoom and on the Registration and Student Services Building (RSS) second floor.

  • Monday, Nov. 17: 1-5 p.m. (in person)
  • Tuesday, Nov. 18: 9 a.m.-1 p.m. (online only)

General Counseling will be serving continuing, returning and new transfer students on Zoom and on the Registration and Student Services Building (RSS) second floor.

  • Monday, Nov. 17 and Tuesday, Nov. 18: 10 a.m.-noon (in person and online)
  • Wednesday, Nov. 19 and Thursday, Nov. 20: noon-2 p.m. (in person and online)

The Transfer Center will be serving continuing, returning and new transfer students on Zoom and on the Registration and Student Services Building (RSS) second floor.

  • Monday, Nov. 17: noon-2 p.m. (in person only)

The Office of Outreach will be serving De Anza College Promise students and Men of Color Community students. Sessions will take place in the Registration and Student Services Building (RSS) 146 lab, in person.

  • Wednesday, Nov. 19: 1-4 p.m.

The Academic Awareness Program will be serving academic or progress probation students on the Registration and Student Services Building (RSS) second floor.

Upcoming

Sip and Paint Donors and Members Recognition Dinner on Thursday, Dec. 4

The California History Center (CHC)’s fourth annual “Sip and Paint” Donors and Members Recognition Dinner will take place Thursday, Dec. 4, from 5-8 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend. Stop by for an evening of art, food, wine and music. There is a suggested donation of $20.

Chamber Orchestra and Choir Performance on Saturday, Dec. 6

The Music Department’s Chamber Orchestra and Choir will perform together on Saturday, Dec. 6, at 7 p.m., in the VPAC. General admission is $10 and student admission is $5.

They will perform two masterful works of contemporary music – Terry Riley's "In C" and Craig Hella Johnson's "Considering Matthew Shepard."

“In C” is a meditative, minimalistic work that redefined modern music. “Considering Matthew Shepard” is a three-part “fusion-oratorio” that explores themes of loss and compassion in response to the tragic death of Shepard.
