Business Item #1 - Present Infromation for First Year Experience (FYE) and Promise Program

First year Experience (FYE)

• Thin presented additional information about the FYE program.
  • FYE has always had student mentors position(s). The program used to use B-budget to fund student workers, but was cut off two years ago. For the past two years, have been using federal workstudy program to fund their student employees. Currently FYE has no student mentors who qualify for their federal workstudy program.
  • They are planning to hire 4 workers, 6-10 hours per week, rate increased from $19.42 to $21.62. FYE also have events during summer which requires student workers, such as fieldtrips and tutoring.
  • This year their B-budget is $10,000 included for everything, such as supplies, fieldtrips, food, events.
  • Amy: You can look into other positions that are student assistants funded by DASG, compare those existing funded roles to this new role and see if that’s something you would like to support.
  • Dennis: whether you fund them or not, they can also come back next year.
  • Jacob: We should keep that at 0.

Promise Program

• Kyle presented additional information about the FYE program. 
  • Dennis: DASG has funded promise only through special allocations, not on an on-going basis. They are currently trying to establish a regular ongoing budget account, similar to De Anza Developers.
  • Jayven: I think it's better for promise to have a concrete budget instead of them constantly requesting for special allocation. It will allow them to have better planning.
  • Jacob: We can maintain $1000 like past years, but we can decide at the senate meeting.

Business Item #2 - Preparation for Presentation of the Budgets to the DASG Senate

• The finance committee practiced the presentation together and had discussions of format and seating formation during the senate meeting.
• Alan will open with explanations of Budget Principles and Rubric. Senators will take turns to explain each line and go through the whole spreadsheet. Finance senators will help answer any questions.
